Wanted: Camp Host
The city of Storm Lake, Iowa, is looking for a couple to work with us this
summer. It is pretty easy work. It does get busy the three holiday weekends
and fairly busy on regular weekends. We help each other out when it is
busy. Woman does the office work. Man does the outside stuff with very
little lawn work, no electric, plumbing, or repairs to speak of. You do
have to do the restrooms, but they are not hard to clean as most people are
pretty good. Free site with pad, elec and WiFi, plus wages for all hours
worked. Hours do vary some. May ?until just after Labor Day holiday.
Beautiful campground on Storm Lake great walleye fishing. Very friendly
people who stay with us; we have made allot of good friends here. If you
like meeting new people, fishing, biking riding, walking, sitting around
the fire, having a drink this is the place for you. E-mail resumes to
justin@stormlake.org, as he is the city contact person.
Was wondering if you could post this job opening for me.

Interested in Willamette
Attitude is perhaps the most important qualification for being a good
campground host. Other qualifications include an interest in the outdoors
and a like of people, since visitors will be coming to you for advice on
places to go, where to find services, and with problems that might arise in
the campground. Liking people, and wanting to help, not only affects the
pleasure of campground users, but also enjoyment of being a host.

If you are interested in applying for a host position, or are interested in
more information, please contact one of our

2. House Sitting Article

"Mounting Responsibilities Have Some Homeowners Afraid to Leave the House:" By Ian L. White It's true, people need to escape the burdens of daily life for awhile--from things like mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, painting, gardening, remodeling, home repairs, pet care, checking the mail, and paying their bills. Even a break from nosy neighbors is reason enough to get away for a while. But weeds don't pull themselves. Bills don't pay themselves. Most pets won't feed themselves. Yet, the grass keeps growing beneath their feet. Ironically, people become tied to their homes by the same responsibilities that they are trying to escape. And, since the families that play together, stay together; people are not likely to leave a sibling or spouse at home to keep up on these tasks. It's a really discouraging circle. For homeowners, the solution seems clear: find somebody to stay at their house, and take care of everything while they're gone. The challenge, however, is finding somebody they can trust. Friends? Perhaps. But most people feel uncomfortable asking their friends to shoulder such a tremendous burden. Relatives? Possibly, but many homeowners don't like the thought of leaving their homes in the care of their crazy cousin, Eddie. Or worse. What homeowners need are honest people to occupy their homes. People who desire a change of scenery, for example, or save for homes of their own. People who wish to be closer to their own families; writers seeking peace, quiet, and inspiration. And they definitely need people who understand their specific requirements, and someone they can trust. Enter www.housecarers.com, an online search and screen database for house sitters and homeowners to share information. The introduction of Housecarers.com allows people to leave their troubles behind. Literally. At Housecarers.com, a unique search utility allows users to screen thousands of registered house sitters according to age, location, occupation, and just about any other requirements that they select. From short to long term, and from yard to garden, people can find a perfect match, including a house sitter who will manage all lawn and garden needs, pet care (no boarding fees), mail collection, bill payment, utilities, and any other issues that may arise. And the service is very easy to use. For instance, when a homeowner registers with the system (a free service), they will be notified by e-mail any time a new house sitter matching their criteria signs up with the program. House sitters, in turn, are motivated to register because of the fast and reliable way in which they can find free accommodations in exchange for housesitting. According to Jim Hale, who used Housecarers to find a house sitter, the system works remarkably well. Says Hale, "I looked on the Internet, found the HouseCarers web site, and registered our information. Within a couple of days, we had many responses -- some as far away as New Zealand! We got in touch with a couple in their 50s, and they turned out to be some of the nicest people we've ever met! The whole thing worked out very well -- they stayed with us a few days before our trip, they did a great job of watching over our house and our pets, and they even emailed us every day to let us know everything was ok! The amazing thing is that we didn't have to spend a penny to have these great people take care of things!" Author Ian L. White specializes in helping people who are interested in finding a house sitter in their town, or for more information about the benefits of house sitting. To find out about these services, visit www.housecarers.com today. Registration is free for homeowners (and they'll never have to rely on cousin Eddie again).

The Bureau of Labor Statistics calculates the national value per volunteer hour is $19.51. Federal and state parks have discovered the value of RV volunteers. RV volunteers are in high demand at these parks. We hope in the future large cities will take the necessary steps to attract volunteer camp hosts eager to volunteer their services and at the same time experience travel to the large cities. It is our hope cities will also recognize how RV volunteers could provide much needed services for their citizens.
To accomplish this symbiotic relationship forward looking cities must first build designated RV volunteer sites in strategically placed locations throughout the cities. The sites could be placed near museums, zoos, libraries, parks, hospitals, government buildings, airports, lakes, bike paths, stadiums or other areas able to utilize volunteers. These RV sites would then be exchanged for volunteer services. The relatively low cost to construct the RV sites ($10,000 to $15,000 per campsite) would be offset by the increase in a diverse and experienced workforce. The work history of RV volunteers is broad, ranging from academia to the trades.
It is our firm belief that cities willing and able to provide the RV sites in exchange for an expanded quality workforce will find, just as state and national parks have found, exchanging RV sites for volunteer hours, is a most beneficial arrangement. These cities will be the best equipped to reap the rewards of the new wave of voluntourism and with it the benefits these volunteers will provide in the future.
This is one of those win-win situations and our hope for the future.
